B+P Gift Guide: Shop Small

Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! If you’re new around here, I love supporting small businesses, especially this time of year and *especially* given the last two years we’ve had. This is my second-annual Small Business Saturday gift guide, showcasing a sampling of my favorite places in Nashville and gift ideas from each. This season, I’m trying to primarily purchase gifts for our family and friends from small businesses or secondhand sources like thrift or antique stores, and it’s been a really fun and refreshing approach. I encourage you to do the same if you can… it’s a small act that makes a big impact!

Barb loves her mini Turkish rug.
I got these beautiful Kilim stockings from Apple & Oak last year.

Apple & Oak

Apple & Oak is one of my all-time favorite shops on the east side of Nashville. The owner, Allison, has such a good eye for fun and funky pieces. Not to mention, A&O carries the most beautiful vintage Turkish rugs. We have two in our house and I will 100% be adding more. B+P gift ideas: a mini vintage rug, a funny mug (pair with a bag of local coffee), these champagne coupes, and Christmas tree ornaments. Head to Shops at Porter East today from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. to support A&O and other small businesses in the Eastside Crawl!

Gardens of Babylon

A houseplant is truly the gift that keeps giving. Gardens of Babylon is a happy place for me… I can walk there from my office so if I’m ever in need of a pick-me-up, I head over and do a few laps. B+P gift ideas: a pretty planter and plant (they will pot it for you on-site!), crystals, smudge sticks.

The Golden Slipper

The Golden Slipper in Germantown is a must-visit. Abbey (the owner) is such a joy of a human and has curated the most beautiful space full of goodies for everyone on your list. B+P gift ideas: stationary, cookbooks, holiday candles, locally-sourced snacks, homemade pasta. Pro tip: the Shop Small Holiday Market & Neighborhood Crawl is happening today from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.!

Vinnie Louise

Vinnie Louise is a local boutique that I frequent for clothing and gifts. They always have amazing fresh styles, cute jewelry, home tchotchkes and greeting cards. B+P gift ideas: a comfy sweater, earrings, an Enneagram candle (see above) or a gift card so they can choose!

How aesthetically pleasing is this place??

Lemon Laine

If you want to give someone the gift of quality skincare, relaxation or wellness, Lemon Laine is your spot. If you’re local, I also recommend signing up for Club Lemon Laine… you accumulate rewards to use on future purchases, receive freebies and invites to special events. It’s totally worth it! B+P gift ideas: a visit to the custom oil bar (this CHANGED my skin), CBD chocolates, face masks.

Other Favorites

TNT Goods | I have several pieces of their jewelry and love them. Find them at a holiday pop-up in the Gulch today from 11 a.m.-6 p.m.

Gift Horse | The cutest little stationary and gift shop in East Nashville. A great place to get books and games for kiddos too! They are also taking part in the Eastside Crawl today from 10 a.m.-6 p.m.

Baxter & Bailey | A must-visit for the pet mamas & papas in your life, or to find gifts for your fur babies. Barb LOVES these treats.

Woodland Wine Merchant | If you’re giving the gift of holiday spirit (see what I did there?), you can still support local, small business. We love shopping at Woodland Wine – they have two locations in Nashville (East and Sylvan Park) and they offer an incredible selection of wines, craft beers and some spirits. Stop by to grab a few bottles for yourself, for your loved ones or for hostess gifts this season. And check out the Post-Thanksgiving Sale for extra savings!

I hope this guide is helpful if you’ve been wanting to do more small business shopping this holiday season. Even if you aren’t local to Nashville, there should still be some ideas here of things to look for in your neck of the woods. You can also support small by shopping online, when available… just make sure to get in those orders SOON to get head of the inevitable holiday delays. Coming soon: the secondhand gift guide!

Cheers and love,

E
