Lately, I’ve been seeing a LOT of Marie Kondo-ing happening on my Instagram feed. I haven’t drank the Kool-Aid just yet, but I do agree that there’s no better time than the present to purge old items that you aren’t using – new year new you, right? But, do you also apply that logic to the beauty and wellness products you have lying around? If you’re anything like me, they tend to accumulate quickly and if they’re not in the regular rotation… they end up stashed in a drawer, collecting dust long past their expiration dates.
Today, I’m going to give you a peek at how I like to organize the drawers in my bathroom. As you know, we live in a small space so storage can be sparse and organization is the key to me keeping my sanity in tact.
I’d like to focus on my makeup/skincare drawer, which is the one I frequent most often. I recently took the time to go through all of the products I’ve accumulated in the last year. I kept anything that I use regularly (i.e. my regular skincare/makeup routine products) or newer products that I’m excited to use (like face masks). I also did an inventory of those items to see what I’m low on and need to repurchase soon. Anything that was old, not used regularly (or ever), or extremely close to being empty… all got tossed.
One thing that I knew I wouldn’t be throwing away is this Evian Facial Spray that I love. Y’all already know that I have a thing for facial sprays, and this is a personal favorite of mine. I like that it’s an aerosol, so you know you get a constant fine-mist spray. This one is great, not only as a quick skin refresher – but also for setting your makeup. It also comes in a travel-friendly size, which I tend to keep in my purse or pack in my carry-on bag for longer flights (like our recent trip to Paris). It’s truly a versatile product and the best part – no expiration date!
Once all of the items I don’t use/need were gone, I reorganized everything using these acrylic trays – primers, concealers, foundations, and other “face stuff” went in one. Eyeliners, eyeshadows, under eye gel, etc. went into another. And lipsticks, liners, and glosses went in another. These trays the perfect size for holding all of my makeup, nail polishes, hair ties – you name it!
It’s such a good feeling to open a drawer, cabinet, pantry – WHATEVER – and see a clean, organized array of items… does my organization-loving heart a lot of good. How are y’all cleaning up for the new year/season? Any organization tips that you’d like to share? Let me know in the comments below!
