Friday Five: Beauty & Wellness by Trader Joe’s

Happy Friday, y’all!

The last few weeks have been super busy for us, but we are taking it easy this weekend and honestly, I am really excited about that. Barbara also got spayed yesterday and needs a little R&R so I see a lot Netflix and cuddling in our near future.

Today’s Friday Five is about a few unexpected beauty products that I love and regularly use – all from Trader Joe’s! I’m sure I’ve made it very clear by now how much I love TJ’s, and I really enjoy sharing my grocery-run finds and favorite recipes with you guys. But if you haven’t ever purchased any of their beauty or personal care items, you should definitely take a stroll down that aisle the next time you go.

As is the case with most Trader Joe’s products, their line of beauty and wellness products are made of all-natural ingredients and most are cruelty-free. Plus, they’re all offered at amazing prices – each of the following are under $10!

Here are a few of my favorites:

100% Organic Argan Oil – $6.99

I love incorporating Trader Joe’s argan oil into my weekly beauty routine. When we lived in Chicago, my skin and hair would get SO dry in the winter. For a burst of hydration, I would apply a small palmful to my skin right after the shower and also to the ends of my hair before styling. It made a huge difference. Plus, it is USDA Certified organic, cruelty-free, and it lasts forever (a little goes a looong way).

You can also use this oil to make a great DIY hair mask each month:

  • 2 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon argan oil

  • In a small bowl, combine the coconut oil and argan oil. Note: if the coconut oil has solidified, I just put it in the microwave for a few seconds to return it to a more liquid state.
  • Brush hair thoroughly and apply the combined oils starting at the ends and working up to the nape of your neck. Use a wide-tooth comb (or your fingers) to work the treatment in really well (for a more intensive treatment, I like to double the ingredients and go all the way up to my roots).
  • Put hair up in a top knot and wait – you can either let it sit for 2-3 hours, or you can apply the mask before bed and sleep with a shower cap on.
  • Wash your hair using your regular shampoo/conditioner routine, dry and style as usual. Enjoy your shiny, moisturized locks!

Facial Cleansing Oil – $6.99

I discovered this cleansing oil last year and use it a few times a week! It also features argan and coconut oils as key ingredients, so it’s very moisturizing. When the cleansing oil craze started taking off, I thought there was no way I could use them on my skin, which is naturally oily. After doing a little research, I discovered that they’re actually perfect for ALL skin types, including oily or acne-prone. I like to use it as a morning cleanser to remove all of the nighttime product remnants on my face. To use, you just apply a few pumps to your hands and rub on your DRY face in small circular motions. Next, run your fingers under warm water and massage again, which will start to dissolve the oil down into an almost milky state. Then you just rinse off, pat dry, and follow with your favorite moisturizer. It smells amazing and makes my skin so soft!

Rose Facial Oil – $4.99

This tiny bottle of facial oil has come to the rescue on more than one occasion! It is light, incredibly moisturizing and smells AMAZing. I use it on my face 1-2 times a week – applying generously before bed and letting it sink in as I sleep. And at only 1 oz, you could literally take it anywhere you go. Trader Joe’s introduced a line of rose-scented beauty products early this year which includes this facial oil, a wonderful hand cream, and…

Rose Water Facial Toner – $3.99

This Rose Water Facial Toner is so light and refreshing. Another common theme: it smells really really good. Y’all already know about my love affair with Mario Badescu’s line of facial sprays – it runs deep. But, I also recommend this guy as a great inexpensive option to throw in your purse and mist on throughout the day to hydrate and refresh your skin. I also tend to spray it very lightly on my face after applying my makeup as a final “setting” spray – it gives my skin an amazing dewy finish that I really enjoy.

Grapefruit Ginger Sugar Scrub – $5.99

Alright. Do y’all want the good news first, or the bad? Let’s start with the positives: I love this scrub so much. Seriously, it is one of the best I’ve ever used – feels good, smells amazing, cruelty-free, rinses clean, and makes my skin ridiculously soft. I like to use it to exfoliate before applying self-tanner – it makes the application much more even, and keeps me from getting Oompa Loompa knees and elbows.

And now for the bad news…. it was a seasonal item and it’s no longer in stores and I don’t know if it’s coming back and I AM SO SO SORRY because I know you’d love it too! Based on the insane amount of online reviews from customers begging Trader Joe’s to bring it back, I would make sure to keep an eye out in your local store. And if they DO bring it back, maybe grab like six.

And that does it, ladies and gents! If you haven’t perused Trader Joe’s beauty/wellness aisle before, I can’t recommend it enough! I feel like there are always new treasures to discover, and you cannot beat these prices. If you are a TJ’s Beauty/Wellness Veteran, I’d love to hear what products you love and trust – be sure to drop me a line in the comments below.

Hope everyone has a happy and relaxing weekend!
