If you’ve been following along on social media, you know it’s been a busy week for the three of us! The movers arrived in Houston Tuesday morning and within 24 hours we were on the road to our pit stop city, the lovely town of Little Rock, Arkansas. I had only passed through LR once in the past but let me tell you, I am so glad that we had the chance to stop and actually do some exploring. Our hotel was downtown in the River Market District, and there were a ton of cute restaurants, bars and shops all within walking distance.
Last night, we ate dinner at Brave New Restaurant, a smaller venue tucked into a building you’d probably miss unless you’re looking for it – our Uber driver even called it a “hidden gem” of Little Rock. I randomly found them on OpenTable last week and immediately noticed that they have amazing reviews. And it’s easy to see why! They offer a lot of seafood and steak entrees, delicious soups and salads, and a solid wine list. Plus, our table had a direct view of the river and our server was amazing. If you ever get the chance to visit you must promise to save room for their famous Chocolate Crème Brulee. I’m seriously going to be dreaming about it for weeks.
This morning, we paid a visit to Zeteo Coffee. They have two locations – the one we went to and another in nearby Conway. Not only do they make a mean cappuccino, they use money from sales to help provide clean water to developing countries (how cool is that?). It’s the perfect spot to fuel up before enjoying all that downtown Little Rock has to offer, or for setting up shop to get some work done. Also, I recommend the bacon, egg & cheese croissant – it’s delicious!
From Zeteo, we explored downtown for a few hours, stopping by Ottenheimer Hall at River Market, which reminded me so much of my beloved French Market in Chicago. It is basically a “food court” in the middle of River Market District that features local vendors offering everything from artisan pastries and pizza by the slice to authentic Indian food.

We also stopped by an amazing boutique called Fringe Clothing, where I may or may not have picked up a few goodies (see: blue knotted top below). They have the cutest clothes and also a shop dog named Ellie, so yeah I was sold. They don’t have an online store right now, but you can shop their looks on Instagram and shipping is only $5.

We rounded out our afternoon with a visit to U.S. Pizza Company in The Heights, which was highly recommended by a friend (lookin’ at you, Kelsey Tennyson!) and it was so tasty. We enjoyed ice cold mugs of draft Yuengling and Dan was also able to get his chicken wing fix, so I’d call that a big fat win.
And now here we are, almost to our new home of Nashville, where we will have one more night in a hotel before moving into our temporary corporate housing situation tomorrow afternoon. We were just commenting earlier that A. these past few days have been a total blur and B. Barbara has been such a champion throughout all of this change. Moving is no joke, you guys… but it’s a fun new adventure and otherwise, I don’t know if/when we would have ever actively sought out Little Rock to spend a day. If you ever get the chance, I can’t recommend it enough. There is so much personality packed into that cute little city and we will definitely be back!
Cheers,
EBG
